Program Information
The Travel program is designed to give 4th-8th grade boys & girls with more advanced basketball skills the opportunity to play against other communities at the highest level. This program is open to boys who live in or attend school in South Saint Paul. Participating in travel basketball requires a significant time commitment from the player and their family and in most cases should be the player’s primary athletic extra-curricular activity during the travel season. We work to develop competitive basketball players by providing quality instruction, increased practice time and tournament play. We also strive to teach good sportsmanship, encourage team spirit and maintain humility. These goals require discipline, commitment and effort from participants, coaches and parents. Playing time is not guaranteed and is earned by attending all practices (Excused reasons for an absence as defined by Packer Hoops will not impact playing time), working hard and appropriately engaged during practices and games will increase their chancing of more playing time as the season progresses. There may be times that no matter the amount of hard work or practices attended a player may not play as minutes as in a past game or as their teammates. This can be because of game time situations or based on a matchup or inability to substitute a player at a given time during the game. Parents should be aware that there are additional costs for participating in the travel program that are their responsibility. Additional costs include uniforms, admission fees for tournaments that don’t operate under the No Gate Fee Model, expenses of traveling to and from tournaments, and overnight lodging and food costs at any or for any Packer Hoops scheduled tournaments. At no time can a player who is rostered to a Packer Hoops (SSPBBA) traveling team play on an additional travel(ing)/AAU team during the Packer Hoops traveling basketball season.
